§ 9-76-3. Permit to operate and maintain private supply.

    No person shall operate or maintain a private water supply until a permit therefor has been issued by the department of health, which permit shall not be valid for longer than one year and may be renewed at the expiration thereof upon payment of the fees hereinafter set out. All permits shall be in writing. Such permit may be revoked by the health officer upon the violation by the holder of any of the terms of this chapter, or in any emergency when, in the judgment of the health officer, the continued operation of the private water supply will be a public health menace. The holder of such permit, after such revocation, shall have the right of appeal to the city council.

    B.

    The yearly permit to operate or maintain a private water supply shall not be issued until an inspection fee is paid each year to the department of health. A fee of $100.00 shall be paid by the owner of one private water supply well, whether shallow, deep, abandoned or condemned. An additional charge of $25.00 shall be paid for each additional well whether operating or not. The fee shall be due and payable on or before January 31 of each year.
