§ 9-56-15. Billing of solid waste disposal fee.

Latest version.
  • A.

The solid waste disposal fee for removal of refuse by the city shall be included as a separate item each month on the bills rendered by the light, gas and water division. Such charge shall be rendered to all persons whose billing date would be on or after January 1, 1968, and for each month thereafter, at the rate as set forth in section 15-12 [9-56-11]. All persons receiving solid waste service by the city who are not customers of the light, gas and water division shall be billed separately by the city. The amount shall be paid monthly to the person or department designated by the council by resolution.

    B.

In the event that all or any portion of the solid waste disposal fee remains unpaid 30 days after the delinquent date of the utility statement, the light, gas and water division shall, upon written request by the director of solid waste, terminate water service to the property affected. Additionally, the city shall cease the collection of solid waste from that premises.

    C.

When service commences or ceases, applicable charges may be prorated. If electricity, gas, or water services or any of them, shall be supplied to a location, the occupant or tenant of which has vacated such premises, and the city is satisfied that there has been a termination of the need for solid waste collection, then the city, on application of the owner or agent therefor, may suspend liability for such charges, and such charges shall be reinstated with the next utility bill rendered to an occupant or tenant of such premises.
