§ 6-64-1. Definitions.

  • As used in this chapter:

    Board of supervisors means the board of supervisors of public solicitation of funds, as created by section 2-54-1.

    Public solicitation means any begging or solicitation in the city of money, subscriptions or contributions for any charitable, religious, educational or benevolent purposes, upon the streets, in public places, buildings, and from house to house, or by the use of the telephone or otherwise, but nothing herein shall be construed to prevent or forbid any pastor, priest, rabbi, rector or minister of the gospel from soliciting funds exclusively from members of his or her own congregation or flock. The offering for sale of any merchandise or subscriptions to any magazine, periodical or publication, the profits from which sale or any part thereof, are to be used for the benefit of any charitable, religious, educational or benevolent purpose, shall be deemed a "public solicitation" within the meaning of this chapter. The offering for sale of tickets to any show or other performance represented as being for the benefit of a charitable, religious, educational or benevolent purpose shall be deemed to be a "public solicitation" within the meaning of this chapter.
