§ 14-16-47. Maintenance in safe operating condition—Responsibility of owner.

A.

Every elevator, escalator, dumbwaiter and amusement device shall be maintained by the owner or lessee in a safe operating condition so that it conforms to the provisions of this chapter and to rules and regulations adopted by the city council.

B.

The owner or his or her duly appointed agent shall be responsible for the safe operation and proper maintenance of an elevator, dumbwaiter or escalator after the operating permit has been issued by the director of planning and development, and also during the period of effectiveness of any limited operating permit as defined in section 14-16-42(B). The owner shall also be responsible for making all initial and periodic tests required by this chapter.
