§ 8-20-6. Unowned or abandoned dog or animal.

  • Any stray, unowned, or apparently abandoned animal that bites a human being will be held for ten days. At the end of the ten-day holding period, the animal may be destroyed in an expeditious and humane manner. Any animal determined to have been involved in a bite incident, and held for less than ten days shall be tested at the state laboratory for rabies.
