Chapter 2-66. MEMPHIS CONVENTION CENTER COMMISSION |
§ 2-66-1. Memphis Convention Center Commission membership.
A.
There is hereby established a Memphis Convention Center Commission which shall consist of seven regular members and two ex-officio members appointed by the Mayor of the City of Memphis. Successors to the regular members shall also be appointed from time to time as vacancies may occur by the Mayor of the City of Memphis.
The ex-officio members shall be:
1.
The Mayor of the City of Memphis, or his or her designee; and
2.
The Chairman of the Council of the City of Memphis, or his or her designee, to serve in the interest of the economic development and tourism committee (or the successor committee).
B.
The terms of office of said members shall be for a period of two years, beginning July 1 annually. The members shall operate, manage, control, regulate and care for the convention center, but without compensation.
C.
Any contract to be entered into by the commission in connection with its authority to operate and maintain the convention center which attempts in any manner to allow a separate entity or individual to manage or operate the facility or any ancillary activities related thereto shall first be subject to the approval of the Mayor of the City of Memphis.
D.
All governance of the convention center operations and management by Shelby County government is hereby repealed.
