§ 2-40-4. Purpose; annual report.

  • A.

    The purpose of the board established by this chapter shall be to serve as the focal point and assume responsibility within the city to provide information and recommendations regarding human service needs. It shall develop, from information, data, recommendations and/or advice provided by the hereinbefore named and the hereinafter named Memphis Advisory Council on Human Services, goals and objectives and a strategy for developing resources to respond to human service needs. It shall transmit such information at least quarterly to the city council and city administration.

    B.

    The aforementioned strategy may include, but is not limited to, the following:

    1.

    Involvement with the private sector in efforts to meet such needs through assistance in the application for funds from federal, state, local or private foundation sources;

    2.

    Application for funds from federal, state, local or private foundation sources, on behalf of the city, to provide services under contractual agreements with private human services providers in the community; and

    3.

    Communicate and cooperate with providers within the community as well as other interested organizations, agencies, individuals or governmental entities regarding services needed or already available within the city.

    C.

    An annual report shall be transmitted to the city council and to city administration, by December 1 of each year, setting forth its activities, progress, and evaluation as to the delivery of human services, both as to program and accountability and its recommendation for goals, objectives and strategy for responding to human service needs.
