§ 2-40-1. Establishment.
A.
Designation. There is established a board to be known as "Memphis Human Services Board" whose members shall be of lawful age and residents of the county.
B.
Members; appointment. The board shall consist of nine members, who shall be appointed as follows: two council representatives appointed by the chairperson of the city council; two administration members appointed by the mayor of the city; one representative from the professional or business sector of the community and one citizen-at-large from the community who shall be appointed jointly by the mayor of the city and the chairperson of the city council; one representative from the state department of human services, and two members who shall be elected by the Memphis Advisory Council on Human Services, hereinafter described under section 2-60-1, one of whom shall be the chairperson of that advisory council. The chairperson of the city council, the mayor of the city, the chief administrative officer, and the director of finance and administration shall serve as ex officio members of the board without votes.
C.
Term of office. The four city government representatives shall serve for a term of two years; the state department of human services, the two private sector members, and the two advisory council members shall serve for a term of two years. Upon the expiration of the original terms of such members, their successors shall be appointed for a term of two years each. All members of the board shall hold office until their successors have been appointed and approved, and such members may succeed themselves in office. Any vacancy in office shall be filled for the remainder of the term then in existence, on appointment, in the same manner as hereinbefore set forth.
