Article 6. MINIMUM SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR ELEVATORS |
§ 14-16-69. Outside bars required for certain hoistway windows.
Latest version.
Windows in the hoistway enclosure less than seven floors above the sidewalk level or less than three floors above the roof of an adjacent building shall be fitted on the outside with vertical metal bars not less than five-eighths inch in diameter and spaced not more than ten inches apart.
Note: this is the usual method of indicating on the exterior of the building the location of an elevator hoistway. It serves to warn firefighters not to place ladders against such windows.
