§ 14-16-55. Authority to forbid use of unsafe devices.

    The elevator inspector may forbid the use of any elevator, dumbwaiter, escalator or amusement device deemed unsafe on account of defects or of an incompetent operator, until his or her lawful orders have been complied with and he or she shall have the authority to order the power cut off from any such defective device.

    B.

    If the inspection report required by section 14-16-33 indicates that an elevator or escalator is in an unsafe condition, so that its continued operation may be dangerous to the public safety, then the director of planning and development may, at his or her discretion, require the owner or lessee to discontinue the use of such elevator or escalator until it has been made safe and in conformity with the rules and regulations of this chapter.
