§ 11-60-9. Registration fees for freight motor vehicles.

The registration fees for trucks and truck tractors shall be:

A.

Private carriers:

1.

Class 1: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, of not more than 9,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $38.00.

2.

Class 2: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, of not more than 16,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $51.00.

3.

Class 3: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 20,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $83.00.

This registration class may likewise be issued for motor vehicles in excess of 20,000 pounds which are hereinafter identified and for limited use hereinafter described:

a.

Truck tractors used exclusively to pull lowboy type trailers on which is transported machinery that is used only for agricultural purposes, such as but not limited to terracing, clearing land, and building ponds, levees, ditches and/or canals; and

b.

Trucks on which are mounted lime-for-fertilizer spreaders. The use of the highways by these limited use motor vehicles registered in this class is restricted to that which is incidental to the movement of such designated machinery from farm to farm and any volume and unpackaged lime and fertilizer from the distribution point to the farm.

Provided, however, that the applicant for licensing hereinabove must file an affidavit with the city's registration agent that such trucks or truck tractor combinations are used exclusively for such agricultural purposes; and, further, that a notarized carbon copy of the affidavit shall be attached to the owner's certificate of registration and shall be carried and displayed as provided in T.C.A. § 5-54-108 for state registration purposes.

Class 4: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 26,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $114.00.

Class 5: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 32,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $146.00.

6.

Class 6: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 38,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $177.00.

7.

Class 7: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 44,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $209.00.

8.

Class 8: freight motor vehicles with declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 56,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $282.00.

9.

Class 9: freight motor vehicles with a declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 66,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $313.00.

10.

Class 10: freight motor vehicles with a declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 74,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $376.00.

11.

Class 11: freight motor vehicles with a declared maximum gross weight, including vehicle and load, not in excess of 80,000 pounds.

Registration fee: $452.00.

B.

City motor vehicle registration shall not be required on over-the-road vehicles carrying freight and cargo to and from places outside the city from and to places within the city exclusively, and not making local stops within the city except at terminals or depots which are registered and licensed by the Interstate Commerce Commission, and are for public hire only.

C.

City motor vehicle registration shall not be required for vehicles not required to register annually with the state.

D.

Combined farm and limited private trucks. Motor vehicles used exclusively for the movement of farm products for the grower from the point of production to the first market, or operated as farm trucks, as defined in T.C.A. § 55-1-119, or as logging and lumbering trucks, or as the owner's private conveyance, transporting only tangible personal property belonging to the owner or guest occupant, as defined in T.C.A. § 55-4-113, shall be classified and registered with the city's registration agent as freight motor vehicles at the following fees in lieu of those set out in subsection A of this section:

E.

Freight trailers and semitrailers. No city registration fee shall be required for such vehicles as defined in T.C.A. § 55-3-113.
